wonder at the everyday

Welcome to a brand new year!

This year I am focusing on taking things slow, taking things deep and creating solid roots for the future.

And part of slowing down is noticing the small things.

Beauty really is all around us all the time

Inspiration is everywhere.

If you’ve been at home a lot these holidays and are feeling a little stir crazy, noticing the small things can make even the everyday seem exciting.

If you’ve been away, you’ll be surprised at how many small things you notice when you get home, things you might have overlooked or stopped noticing before.

👉 This is your superpower as a creative. Noticing the detail.

There's this house I drive by every time I go to the local veggie shop.

And I marvel at the washing line everytime I drive past.

Yep the washing line.

The lady who lives there has this incredible way of hanging out her washing.

If it’s blacks day, all the black shirts are lined up, then the black pants, then the black socks all facing the same way, then the black undies.

It’s a wondrous sight of organised, regimented washing.

I’m often disappointed when it’s not a washing day!

The attention to detail that goes into the simple act of hanging out the washing. Even this is an expression of creativity.

What small things do you notice?

What details do you obsess over?

For me, slowing down is a big part of not missing these details in our everyday lives.

Slowing down enough to appreciate the minute. The seemingly unimportant.

Not waiting for Something Big to happen, but appreciating all the Small Somethings that happen everyday.

Exalting in the everyday is a sure way to bring wonder to your life.

May you have a wondrous year in 2025.

Hey Reader, Let’s open up a GIANT cans of worms with this Tech Tuesday instalment: design software If you've been quilting for a while, you've likely come across different softwares people use in their quilt designing process. Adobe Illustrator, EQ8, Affinity Designer, Inkscape, Powerpoint, Canva... First up… Why do we need it? Ain’t a good ol’ back of the envelope and a pencil enough? Don't get me wrong, I love to start designing analogue with quick sketches, or doodles. But then… I use...

hey Reader How do you make a plant into fabric? When we visited Otzi, the 5000 year old human found in the pre-alps about 3 hours drive from my house, the thing that fascinated me the most wasn't just his 61 tattoos. It was also how people innovated to use plants to make things to wear. Otzi was found with this incredible cloak. Can you guess what it was made from? Nothing obvious, like the reeds growing in front of you as you sit on a river bank, or the grass you touch with your hands as you...

Did you notice the full moon this morning? In our part of the world (northern Italy), it was shining so bright we played shadow puppets on the wall after waking up, with just the light of the moon. More universal reflections on the way to school: 7year old: Did you know we’re more in the sky than we are on the Earth? Me: What do you mean? 7year old: Well, it’s only the soles of our feet touching the earth. The rest of our body is in the sky all the time. We even breathe in the sky every day....
